juliana and anthony

Jackie, Austin, and Anthony are moving to Colorado this week. Juli is crushed that she won't have Anthony living next door to her anymore! I feel so bad for her.

This is What Happens When You Give a Four-Year-Old Five Dollars

Juliana got some fun money from Grandma Joanie in the mail today and I decided to let her pick out five dollars worth of little toys at the grocery store and have her pay for it herself. Her first real lesson in consumerism! Woo hoo! Anyway, being that she is four, she chose to get an outfit for her Barbie doll ($2.99) and these beautiful (yes I'm being sarcastic) shiny, gold, stick-on plastic fingernails ($1.99). She thought they were the most wonderful things in the world and simply had to purchase them- which we did- and promptly returned home to stick them onto her stubby little fingers. Photographic evidence:

It should be noted that the sticky adhesive on the backs of these fingernails lasted for about twenty minutes, after which I was asked approximately every thirty seconds to help reapply them until I finally broke down and scotch-taped all ten of them to her fingertips.

And how could I have forgotten these?

7. Hi! (my favorite)
8. Dat! (That!- accompanied by a little finger pointing at whatever object has grabbed her attention)

Ava's Vocabulary at 11 Months

1. Uh-Oh!
2. Da Da (her favorite)
3. Kiki (kitty)
4. Day-Day (baby)
5. Mama (only when she cries, but I'll take what I can get).
6. Guh-Guh ("Good Girl"- I know I'm reaching on this one but she says this whenenver I call her a good girl)

I've been feeling a little weepy about my youngest baby's first birthday approaching-- evident in this posting on my personal site. This is probably my most favorite baby age and I wish she could stay like this! I never can get over how happy she is all the time. If only she would always like me as much as she does now...

Also, if you're wondering what to get Ava for her birthday or Christmas, I've already gotten her a Teletubby, a Winnie the Pooh toy and a Booh-Bah (yes, I caved and got one) so no more talking cartoon characters are needed! Just thought I'd pass that information along.

OK, I took the girls to the JC Penny portrait studio today to get their Christmas photos taken and afterwards, we decided to walk around the mall where we saw that SANTA had already taken up residence on the 2nd floor -REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT IT'S NOT EVEN THANKSGIVING YET! So anyway, what kind of mother would I be if I told my four year old (who has never sat on Santa's lap before) that she could not tell Santa all about "Scrabby-Doo" toy she's been yammering on about for weeks now. (Yes, I'm well aware that the show is called Scooby-Doo and that ScraPPy is the name of Scooby's cousin but Juli calls him ScraBBy, so what can you do? Plus, it's cute.) So being the wonderful mother that I am, I let my girls go see Santa (the week before Thanksgiving) and since they were already in their matching holiday dresses, I even shelled out for a picture- despite the fact that they both REFUSED to smile. Juliana was all business and didn't want to stop talking about ScraBBY Doo and Polly Pocket and Barbie Dolls to smile for the camera (hence the can't-you-see-I'm-working-here-mom-and-I-don't-have-time-for-your-silly-photo face), and wouldn't you know that Ava busted out into a full grin the second after the picture was taken?

Say What?

This morning, Juliana was playing quietly by herself while I was reading the news online and I heard her singing to herself,: I love bacon pies, I love bacon pies..." and it took me a few moments before I realized that she was really talking about "bakin' pies" and I breathed a sigh of relief because bacon pies would be just plain gross.

The Latest

Well, it's high time for a little update. Yesterday I popped in an Elmo dvd for Ava and for the first time in 10 1/2 months she actually cared about the images on the screen. The dvd was called "Elmocise!" (A play on the word exercise, get it? HAHA!) and boy did she ever elmocise! She bounced for a full five minutes before becoming completely bored and crawled away. It's so interesting to see how different she is from Juliana sometimes. Juli was obsessed with Elmo and Baby Einstein and Teletubbies from the time she was probably 3 or 4 months old but Ava- no time to sit and watch. Things to do! Objects to put in mouth! I suppose it's better this way since now Juliana tends to turn into a tv zombie and we have to severely limit her watching time but still, it used to be so nice to pop in a Teletubbies video and do something like, oh, take a shower or maybe make dinner.

But I'm not complaining. She can say Mama now instead of insisting on calling me Dada so that is good. And if anybody is wondering about what she would like for her birthday (Yes, it's almost here! Can you believe it?) she is really into stacking things, buckets, anything with buttons to press and baby dolls. Juliana has tons of baby dolls but doesn't really like seeing their heads in Ava's mouth and would love it if her sister had one of her own. I should be starting on birthday party invitations this week as well as her birthday video. The party will most likely be the second weekend of December- either on Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. That's all for now!
