Christmas Deemed a Success

Just to let everyone know, Santa brought Juliana her beloved Scrappy-Doo toy...

... and bows were placed on baby's heads.

More Juli-Isms

"LOOK MOM! IT'S BURGER KING!"

" Juliana, how on earth did you know that? You've never been there!"

"Bailee! She calls it Booger King HAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Some things never change. Haven't we all called it Booger King at one time or another?

You Will Be Cultured Because I Say So.

Yesterday Jason and I took Juliana to see my friend Juan's dance company, Estradanza, perform. We figured since we had taken her to the Art Institute and the MCA a number of times before that she would inherantly have a great appreciation for the world of modern dance. Stuipidly, we forgot to take into account that Juli was proably only between 6 and 18 months old for the bulk of those museum trips and that of course baby's will look at art-they are entertained by their own reflection. Babies will play with their own toes. What I learned yesterday is that my daughter only likes music if it is played in a major key. Dissonance does not rest well on little ears. Although she was generally well behaved, she had an annoyed look on her face, covered her ears quite a bit and eventually let it be known to me and the people sitting around us that she wanted to go home and play with Bailee.

We made it to intermission.

Sometimes I forget that if I love something, it doesn't necessarily mean that the little people I created will love it as well-and that's perfectly fine. She is her own person and it's good to be reminded of that.

"Was it just a little too weird for you honey?"

"Yeah mom, a little weird."

We will be going to the ballet next time.

Happy First Birthday Ava!

Though we had her party this past Sunday, today is my baby girl's actual birthday. This will be the last first birthday we have in this house! *Sniff Sniff*

Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall...

If anyone is looking for some low-budget ideas on what to get Ava for her birthday or Christmas, may I suggest simply framing a picture of her and wrapping it up. I'm not even kidding. Looking at photographs of herself is her favorite pastime right now. I spend half the day holding her up to the pictures hanging on the walls until my arms finally get tired and I end up taking them down for her to look at. When I'm not getting completely annoyed it can be really quite funny.
