Juli Can READ!

Yesterday in the car, Juliana completely took me by surprise and started reading the Dr. Seuss book "Ten Apples Up On Top" to me. She read about half the book before she even had to ask for help with a word! Then this morning she took out "Green Eggs and Ham" and read it to me and Jason on the way to the train. We haven't read these books in quite a while so this really blew us both away. We're so proud of her! As you can see, she's pretty proud of herself too:

And as usual, Ava wants to do whatever her big sister is doing!

I Bought Juliana Some Pipe Cleaners

They didn't stand a chance.

(Does anybody still use these things for the actual cleaning of pipes?)

This weekend, Jacki, Austin, and Anthony (our old neighbors who moved to Colorado last November) surprised us with a visit. No one was more excited than Juliana, who was thrilled to be reunited with her partner in crime:

They also came bearing gifts like this:

As Seen On Tv

Yesterday Juli and I were watching tv on the Cartoon Network and during the commercials an ad for something called Bling came on. Basically, it is sheets of rhinestone stickers that you can glue to your cell phone, iPod, or whatever else you believe needs to be bedazzled. (For those of you who may not know- meaning my grandparents- "bling" is also a slang word rappers started using a few years back that can mean money, diamonds or any other sort of flashy material item.) I sat there watching her stare at this commercial, all the while holding my breath waiting for the inevitable, until finally the phrase I never thought I'd hear come out of my four year old's mouth happened:

"Mom, for my birthday can I please have some BLING?"

Darn you MTV.

Big Week

Phew! I finally put up a few new photo galleries from the last month or so. I still have more to post but we take so many pictues in this house it's completely beyond ridiculousness- especially now since Jason got his new camera. (Side note: Yahoo for tax returns! And you all thought I hated the government. Pshaw.)

Anyway, this coming week at Juliana's school it is our family's turn to be the "Family of the Week." She has been looking forward to this all year and as our luck would have it we were saved until almost the very end. Tomorrow she is bringing in a poster to hang on the wall that describes herself as well as a collage of family photos I made for her. On Tuesday, Jason, Ava and I will be visiting the class and showing one of Juli's bithday music videos as an example of a family tradition. We'll also talk to the kids a little bit about putting together an art show like Juli and Maddie did last fall. We will be bringing some of her framed photographs and passing out buttons we made using a few of her drawings and pictures. Then, to round out the week I will be bringing in treats for the kids on Thursday. Probably cupcakes of some sort. Yum! She is so excited to share her family with her friends and teachers and it's soooo adorable. I know Ava will love to see the classroom and kids as well. She and I are still locked in a battle of wills in which she refuses to say the word "Mama" or "Mommy." She can identify me fine if you ask her to point me out but then she stares right at me and says "Da-Deee!" Most of the time she thinks it's quite amusing too. Not even two years old and already delights in making Mom crazy. One word she really does like lately though, is the word "doll." She says it kind of like "daw," sometimes giving it two syllables as in, "dah-oo". Plus it's always phrased as a question so much of her day is spent carrying around a Barbie or Polly Pocket asking no one in particular, "Dah-oo? Daw? Daaaah-oo?"It's terribly precious.

Two Points For Mommy!

I got Juli to agree to a haircut AND she smiled for the camera! I am officially awesome.

**Yes, I am aware that the new photo gallery I promised is not up yet. It's just been so beautiful outside that I've been neglecting my computer. Imagine that.

The Life and Times of Junie B.

I finally broke down and bought Juliana a few "Junie B. Jones" books from Target last week. Apparently, Junie B. is the new Ramona Quimby, which is what I grew up reading and always loved. The first thing you must learn about Junie B. Jones is that you always have to say her name really fast, like JOONABEEJONES. At least that is how Juliana says it when she talks about her- which is basically every time she opens her mouth. For example:

"Mom, will you read me JOONABEEJONES?

"Bailee has JOONABEEJONES. She got lots of JOONABEEJONES for her birthday."

"Before I didn't have JOONABEEJONES, but now that I do have JOONABEEJONES I like to read JOONABEEJONES every day. Just like Bailee.

And so on.

They are chapter books so it will be a while before she can read them by herself but we've been having a good time reading them together, even though she always wants me to finish the entire thing in one sitting. She gets a kick out of hearing stories about a kindergartener like she will soon be. Joonabeejones, you see, is a lot like Juliana herself- which is (how should we put this?) a little spunky. Energetic. Free-spirited. I'm sure you get it.

If Only It Were True

Yesterday I was telling Juliana about my broken tooth, and after asking to see it she said to me:

"Maybe the tooth fairy will come and leave some money for you under your pillow!"
