the joys of learning to read...

If juliana doesn't know how to read a certain word, she will often get frustrated and copmlain that she can't read it. Other times, she will happily assume a given word says something else entirely.

As we drove past applebee's today, she said, "Applebee's neighborhood girl and bear."

No problems whatsoever with the word "Neighborhood." hehehe

Note to Daddy: 4 year olds don't recognize computer voices

A couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be funny to make my Mac downstairs say hello to Juliana while she was playing a computer game on the pc downstairs. I logged in to my Mac and made it talk to Juliana.

Hello, Juliana. You are a nice girl.

I thought this was very funny.

Juliana, unfortunately, did not.

Mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone is down here talking to me!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

She bolted up the stairs and ran over to us crying. I didn't realize that she wouldn't know that I was making the computer talk. She was terrified. After I apologized about a million times, we sat down and I let her make the computer talk. She mainly wanted it to call me a monkey and make silly baby noises or scream. After we did that for a half an hour she calmed down.

Rock Stars and Vegetables

In the car a while ago I was listening to a Pearl Jam cd and Juliana said, "Hey! Is this BO BICE?"

For those of you who have no idea who Pearl Jam OR Bo Bice is (therefore making the above comment confusing rather than funny) here is another one:

There is a new Chili's restaurant next to the Super Target by our house that has a gigantic chili pepper on the roof. Whenever I go to Target, Ava sees the big pepper and starts shouting: "APP-O! APP-O!"

Translation: "APP-O" = "APPLE"

I don't think she was too pleased about these water wings either. Hopefully she will get over her fear when we go to Florida in a few weeks? Cross your fingers for us.

18 Months Old!

puddingface.jpg

Ava had her 18-month doctor appointment on Wednesday and she is 33 3/4 inches tall and 26.4 pounds! She is still off the chart on her height and is in the upper percentiles for weight. Jason swears she will be tall like him but I'm still skeptical since I started out as a tall baby (HA!) and with the exception of the male Gessners, she comes from a long line of shorties. You can't fight genetics people.

She is saying so many words now that I find it hard to keep up. My absolute favorite is when I come into her room in the morning and she's standing there beaming as she says, "HI MAMA!" Since she is a true girly girl, her favorite thing to talk about (and play with) are shoes. She can point out most of her body parts when asked and her favorite parts are her toes. She loves to watch Teletubbies and Booh-Bah and she loves to dance and sing. (If you ask her to wiggle it's especially adorable.) Her most favorite thing in the world to do though, is to sit on my lap and look at pictures on the computer. We just go through all the photo galleries on her website and she is happy as pie. I had to hide all of our family photo albums because she kept going through them and taking the pictures out. I even let her hold my camera and she pointed it at me and said, "CHEESE!"

Oh yeah, since she is constantly picking up things from her big sister (or "Sissy" as she calls her), she has started saying "Ow! Ow!" whenever I brush her hair. Thanks, Juliana.

Rarrrr

I've been using the scanner a lot this weekend to capture old family photos and Juliana asked if she could scan in some drawings she made. She wanted me to post this one for her. (I like how she has been cutting out all of her artwork lately. I'm surprised she has the patience to be so particular. She even cut out the nubby little tail!)

Notice how Ava's hair is long enough for little pigtails now? Whee!
